Happy Spring Everyone!
We are so happy to be continuing forward & hope our May- June funding project is successful, so we can continue forward.
As many of you know, sales have slowed at many Gluten Free Stores throughout California. Five of the 1st 7 stores have closed and 1 of the 7 has changed ownership. I believe this is because times are changing and we are ready to change our store so we can remain open.
In late May & June, we will be launching a Kickstarter project to move our store forward and to create community awareness of gluten allergies, intolerance & Celiac Disease. The focus will be advancing our community resources and increasing support and activities that are gluten free friendly. Last year we launched the gf menu restaurant project. In addition to expanding restaurants gf awareness, our ‘Awareness Project’ will include potlucks, social activites, barbecues, picnics and game nights. Additionally, we will be bringing in speakers (doctors, nutritionists, chefs, writers), teachers (meditation, dance, writing, art) and will be promoting social activities with gluten free options (music, dance, art, writing, games, hiking, backpacking, traveling).
We hope that our community awareness campaign will help us to move the store forward in the years to come. Any grocery store can carry gluten free foods, but we are more than just a grocery store and we want to remind our community of this. When you support Gluten Free Specialty, you are supporting the ‘Local Gluten Free Community’ in a direct way.
Over the next few months we will be looking for promotional support, public support, media support and monetary support of our project.
First project on the agenda:
KCRA is holding a contest for their A list. Last year we were nominated as 1 of the top 5 stores in the gourmet grocery category. This year, we are in the lower numbers with only 18 days to go.
