Gluten Free Celebrations this Saturday!

In case you haven’t heard, this Saturday we are celebrating 6 years of serving the Sacramento Community and you’re invited to celebrate with us:

Saturday August 9th!

We start with Yoga at McKinley Park, but you can join us at any time, or just come downtown and enjoy a beautiful day, that should be in the low 90’s.

Don’t forget to join the event on FB so you can keep updated and stay in touch with your GFFs:

9am to 10:30 – Yoga in McKinley Park (by the Rose Garden)
11am to 1p – GF Brunch Picnic by the Duck Pond
1:30 or 2pm –  GF Tea & Cake – Gathering of Friends (26th& J)
2:30-3pm until 5pm – GF Picnic Dinner by the River (28th & B Street)
5pm – onward – 2nd Saturday Art Celebration in Sacramento 

GFS closes at 5:30 on Saturday, but several locals will be meeting between 5 and 5:30 at GFS to gather together to walk and visit local art galleries. If you’d like to volunteer to be a local guide. Please contact Melanie ( ). Guides get a free GFS shirt 😉

Event Checklist:

  • What to Bring for yoga at the Rose Garden (McKinley Park):
    • yoga mat or towel
    • water (maybe a couple of bottles)
    • friends
    • class is free, but donations for Yoga Across America are accepted
    • more info here:
  • What to Bring for Picnic at the Duck Pond:
    • food for yourself &  a few others if you’d like to take part in sharing (4-6 people)
    • your favorite recipes  for our holiday recipe book
    • tableware (plates, cups, spoons, forks, knives and serving spoons)
    • a blanket to sit on
    • friends, family, kids…
    • There’s a playground near the duck pond!!!
  • What to Bring for Cake & Tea at Gluten Free Specialty Grocery
    • plate, cup & utensils (extras if you’d like to share)
    • please bring reusable dishes if you can 
    • yourself
  • What to Bring for Picnic with Friends at the River
    • food for yourself &  a few others if you’d like to take part in sharing (4-6 people). Signs that say GFS, so we can all find eachother (the river beach is long).
    • beverage of choice
    • water (to prevent dehydration)
    • sharing is encouraged, but not required
    • Note: restrooms are near Sutter’s Landing Park, the Dog Park , and the B Street Skate Park so be sure to stop there before you head down to the river.
  • What to Bring for Second Saturday Art Walk
    • good walking shoes
    • comfortable clothing
    • friends / family
    • water
    • an adventurous spirit
    • money if you plan to purchase art, food or beverages while out and about.
Midtown Collective Project

Plans for a collective cafe & grocery are underway.

Project Planning is already underway.

Funding for the Cafe & Grocery has already begun
We are currently at almost $1,000 toward our initial $20,000 goal
Currently donations can be made by credit card, cash, check, pay pal and soon by Dwolla. In September, donations can be made directly through our crowd funding online campaign project website.

The direct crowd funding campaign will launch in Mid September 2014

Stage 1: $20,000 will allow us to have tables chairs, water, signage, books for lending, books for sale, cafe items and more…

Stage 2: $20,000 will allow us to have web services, EBT, delivery, pick up and will begin the initial construction for electricity and plumbing necessary for the kitchen and fresh food area.

Stages 3 & 4:  $200,000 to $500,000 will allow for

Stage 3:
Basic Kitchen design, Walk in Fridge & Freezer & electrical work, Prep area, Bulk Bins, Fresh area, triple sink & various plumbing and food additions

Stage 4:
Final Kitchen design, specialty items, oven, kitchen supplies and display & service needs & final electrical work.
